The progression from object to abstraction is not always a photographic process based on technique. It is, first and foremost, an intellectual process. As Manolis Sporidis reminds us, "In the same way that we repeat a word until it loses its meaning, so we can look constantly at a point until we perceive it as form, as colour - that is, as light". That is how Alexis Vasilikos looks at things: from a position stretched out beneath a line of washing.
