The exhibition presents photographs from 19th century photo studios. Our attention, however, is drawn to the backdrop, the decor that the photographer sets up around the subject. As it begins to borrow from painting, the studio ends up looking like a stage set. The decor changes according to the requirements of the subject to be photographed. It is more than decorative: it is also symbolic, and therefore historically and sociologically charged.
