People who leave their homeland acquire manners and customs from the place in which they settle, and gradually the foreign becomes familiar. Their homes may display details of decoration and style that reflect their origin but have been modified by new influences adopted from other cultures. Although in the end the images tell us more about the people in the portraits than they do about the answers to greater cultural questions.
