Honourable mention:

Anne Delasus, Fabiana Figueiredo, Eleni Barka, Nikos Pilos.

Since 1996 "Kounio", besides the big "Photosynkyria" Award, has in conjunction with Hasselblad and Pentax awarded a prize to the best Greek entry.

In the four years since its institution the prize has been awarded to (in chronological order) Alexandros Avramidis, Paris Petridis, Simos Saltiel, Athina Chroni, and Viktor Koen.

This year, the prize for the best
solo exhibition by a Greek photographer will be a
Pentax MZ-6
camera.

The important "Photosynkyria" prize, awarded annually since 1995 (except for 1997, on account of the Thessaloniki '97 Cultural Capital programme), was originally instituted by Porto Carras and the Shell Corporation. The five winners to date have been: Mari Mahr, Yiorgos Depollas, Gianni Berengo-Gardin, Eleni Maligoura,Roger Ballen and Sean Kernan.

Since last year re-named the Sani Festival / Shell Award, the prize, which is awarded to the best individual entry regardless of the nationality of the photographer or the photos' subject, has three parts. Apart from the distinction conferred by the jury's decision, the award includes a cash prize of 1500 Euros offered by the Shell Corporation, while the Sani Festival, held every summer at the Sani Holiday Resort, invites the winning photographer and a companion to be its guests for 8 days (air fare within Europe plus accomodation) during the following summer, when the winning exhibition is presented once again, this time in the framework of the Festival.
