This year EchoSynkyria was organized based on two considerations:
The feedback that was received from its debut last year,
within the framework of PhotoSynkyria 2001, and the theme
of this year's PhotoSynkyria 2002. The former confirmed
the choices made last year as to its role, character and
properties, as they were then put forward. EchoSynkyria
is supposed to be an "accompanying event", aiming
to "assist, showcase, celebrate". Besides the
somewhat vague "what and how?", it is obvious
that such an activity is both both-ways and synergistic.
As was, for that matter, made all too clear last year. Heightening
of the senses and inter-art appreciation through the "Synkyrias"!
Last
year's event demonstrated in addition a functional format,
which was adopted this year as well. Short works by young
Greek composers, recent, "modern", varied, having
something to say to an international audience. On the other
hand, PhotoSynkyria's theme this year, "Humanism and
Photography", has definitely affected EchoSynkyria's
choices. Looking for an obvious correspondence however,
would turn out to be in vain if not meaningless. For, as
was extensively discussed last year at the relevant seminar
"Photography and Sound" conducted by Ferdy Carabott
in the framework of PhotoSynkyria-2001, optimizing EchoSynkyria's
effectiveness might mainly lie in a "contrapuntal"
approach! And a program thus chosen does not seem to bear
an obvious thematic correlation. However obvious this relation
might be though, the effectiveness that is the success of
the event will be judged at the end. And the degree of the
success will be judged again by us together!
