02    TUESDAY 17 FEBRUARY Yiannis Kontos (GR) Photographers of Kabul

During Taliban times, Afghanistan was ruled by an Islamic rule that severely enforced its strict interpretation of the Islamic ban on human images and idols, which are viewed as an insult to God. Anything having to do with photography was prohibited. Since the end of the Taliban rule, photography has flourished. Sidewalk vendors with ancient wooden box cameras practice their dark art inside these huge wooden boxes, which are entire photo studios.
