CAMERA OBSCURA
a supplement to
ENTEFKTIRIO magazine

Entefktirio is an arts and literature magazine published quarterly in Thessaloniki by the Macedonian Society for Art and Culture and edited by Giorgos Kordomenidis.
Starting with its very first issue (October 1987), it has published articles by Aris Georgiou on art photography, usually in the form of essays.
In April 1989 this collaboration took on a different form, with the inauguration of Camera Obscura, a 16-page supplement edited by Aris Georgiou and printed on velvet paper. Each issue is devoted to a different photographer, and presents a specific black-and-white portfolio accompanied by a text written either by the subject or by an independent commentator. Volumes 6-13 (C.O. I-VIII) also contained a brief first page editorial, with the final pages devoted to current events. The last page was reserved for the sponsors of the volume or those advertising in it. With volume 14 (C.O. IX-XXXVI) the format was changed somewhat, with the elimination of the editorial and the commentary on current events. Each insert is thus entirely devoted to the portfolio presented.
Starting with volume IV, a further 500 numbered copies of each issue of Camera Obscura have been printed; these are circulated privately. I

n 1997 Entefktirio completed 10 years as a presence in the world of Greek literature and photography. Camera Obscura, as its regular supplement, is one of the most reliable fora for the promotion of art photography in the form of individual portfolios always with the excellent work of reproductions by Vassilis Lambridis.
The first four numbers of Camera Obscura have been re-issued as a single two-language volume, produced jointly by Camera Obscura, Entefktirio and the Hellenic Centre of Photography and printed in 500 copies.
The first twenty-four numbers of Camera Obscura, together with a number of supplemental publications from the same source and in the same format, have been re-issued in a luxury cloth- bound case, published in 1995 by Kanavos Press in 30 numbered copies. With the support of the Ministry of Culture, we are currently planning a major collective edition, in two languages, scheduled for next spring.
