SANI FESTIVAL/SHELL Award

The important 'Photosynkyria' prize, awarded annually since 1995 (except for 1997, on account of the Thessaloniki '97 Cultural Capital programme), was originally instituted by Porto Carras and the Shell Corporation. The five winners to date have been: Mari Mahr, Yiorgos Depollas, Gianni Berengo-Gardin, Eleni Maligoura and Roger Ballen.
Since last year re-named the Sani Festival / Shell Award, the prize, which is awarded to the best individual entry regardless of the nationality of the photographer or the photos' subject, has three parts. Apart from the distinction conferred by the jury's decision, the award includes a cash prize of 500,000 drachmas offered by the Shell Corporation, while the Sani Festival, held every summer at the Sani Holiday Resort, invites the winning photographer and a companion to be its guests for 8 days (air fare within Europe plus accomodation) during the following summer, when the winning exhibition is presented once again, this time in the framework of the Festival.
